Band Promotion and Marketing – How to Promote Your Band and have More Gigs

I thought about writing this post on band promotion because I commonly hear new bands and struggling musicians wishing they were more paying gigs. Finding a paying gig is great, After all… you spend considerable time, energy as well as cash on getting the act together.. rehearsing, traveling to rehearsals and gigs (gas can be quite a pain should you travel by car), buying your gear, etc. But earning money gigs for new acts can be very difficult.

Because i believe it is great to obtain paid, I would not mean to state think about a band being a business. Some tips i am saying is, it might be practical to at least have your costs covered.

Needless to say, that will depend on you and the main reasons why you are in a band to begin with.

Some bands desire to play; enjoy playing; believe that playing and achieving their music out there is the foremost compensation there is… along with the return of their investment in effort, time and cash is always that possibility to get out of bed there and PLAY. There are also other people who work at a long-term goal like building their unique following and achieving their music across for many years.

Exactly why you do it, just about sums it down.

But, should you wanted to get paying gigs, below are a few things you can do.

1. Develop Your products or services

Now and then I come across a client who struggles with promoting their services or products, and place in a number of effort just to get minimal results. The main reason is, they haven’t yet managed to accurately develop, define and refine their product, which explains why aggressively promoting something mediocre will usually yield mediocre results.

So what is your products? The band, and your music. The main element question for you is how can you set yourself independent of the rest. What exactly is it you accomplish that is unique, or the facts you can do superior to everyone else?

“What would you like people to remember and As you for?”

2. Define Your Music/Repertoire

Repertoire defines what type of band you are. What’s more, it defines who your audience is. I believe writing and recording original material is great because insurance agencies your own music you create a good thing that others do not have. It really is that final quantity of a collaborative creative effort that music news BUT, won’t guarantee success, since for the band to get successfully famous for your own music, you’d first need to attract a crowd that will get to listen to and enjoy it.

On a single note, like a cover band does not always mean you cannot get paying gigs. There are tons of cover bands which get paid well for small bar gigs and even major events.

Exactly what it relies on will be the novelty with the band, and your draw. Novelty is always that something about you that individuals may wish to come see; and your draw will be the size of everyone else you are able to gather at the gigs.

3. Market Yourself

You would need to sell yourself to people that you imagine would thank you for your band and what you are offering. You’ll find basically two kinds of people you wish to industry to; you’ll find individuals who you need visiting your gigs and appreciating your own music, along with the those people who are in a position to hire you for gigs.

This may actually be the classic “the chicken or perhaps the egg scenario”, that you actually grow your audience and have more exposure by being playing more gigs, but to get additional gigs you got to obtain invited or hired by individuals that have a hand to make gigs happen.

However it doesn’t have to be complicated. You just have to do both as well.

Networking is essential. Greater people you can meet, the more contacts you identify, the closer you can your goals.

4. Management / Representation

You must have a manager. An expert figure who you trust and depend on to dedicate yourself to nothing more than the success and well-being with the band.

A supervisor needs to be a tenacious businessman. He could be a negotiator, understands marketing, and most importantly he believes inside the product he’s entrusted with. His absolute goal is always to sustain and develop further the product he manages.

Developing a manager will surely have many perks, then one of the things that I see managers doing that bands that manage themselves cannot, is be objective. The manager sees a thing that individual members inside a band do not see, this runs specifically true when some individuals this guitar rock band develop egos that cloud their judgment. Members often get tunnel vision and might not respond well with people’s opinions that will not be flattering, a manager knows if criticisms are valid and take these not emotionally but objectively.

A supervisor is both a member of the viewers and outsider; an associate as they works together the viewers to attain their goals. He could be an outsider who can make rational decisions as well as be critical with the group if it fails to deliver what their audience expects.

Musicians can often be probably the most stubborn of folks, along with the least receptive to criticism, along with a trusted opinion from an expert figure might help this guitar rock band work to better the product. Do not forget that the manager is especially a businessman, anf the husband runs this guitar rock band because it’s “profitable”… the better to advertise a band, the more money celebrate, the more money the manager makes also.

Managers also need to be very aggressive and protracted, a friend of mine (a manager to get a huge act) once told me an account about how she approached bar after bar just to get denied each time and was given all kinds of reasons and excuses. She never gave up, and didn’t give up her band… today that band is really a major recording artist… and they are big for a while now.
