Motivational Series – Robert E Lee

It is often declared history is written from the victor — that a direct consequence of conflict, the defeated tend to be portrayed as being a collective, detestable mass that follows a likewise repulsive value system. Yet, though his Confederate Army was a student in the losing end of America’s Civil War, Robert E. Lee is remembered as among the most celebrated generals in American history.

Rational ideas of armed conflict presume that defeated soldiers ought to be denounced, not exalted; punished, not praised; and despised, not admired. However, Lee is entirely in the latter. What made one man, one soldier, stand out he is remembered by more Americans today than lots of his victorious Union counterparts?

Unfortunately, it is a question that many volumes of books also have trouble answering. And, I suspect that you have no desire (in this particular moment, at least) to read content of which depth and breadth (i admit that we could not write it). Nonetheless, easily were required to describe the explanation for Lee’s appeal in a word, it could be “motivation.”

I am going to explore this theme while the next quote:

“There is scarcely any situation that is appropriate that individuals cannot hope to accomplish by labor and perseverance. However the first must be earnest along with the second unremitting.”
Robert E. Lee

Earnest Labor

Today’s culture is certainly one by which immediacy is glorified — in the Round-the-clock news cycle; to tarts that “pop” before you pour a glass of milk; to magic weight loss suppliments — in a way that it is easy to forget that anything worth accomplishing takes earnest labor, that i would define as being a serious and purposeful exertion of body, mind and spirit.

When ever businesses discuss pouring their blood, sweat and tears into their companies, they refer simply to earnest labor.

When the craft of your famous musician or star athlete generally seems to look “easy,” it can be made so through earnest labor.

And, when I strive to achieve my goal of building a marathon, Let me commit to one principle: you got it right, earnest labor.

The ability to learn; the ability to change; along with the means by which goals are accomplished; are controlled by your power to work hard, and achieve this earnestly — without reservations (or even a magic pill).

Unremitting Perseverance

Lee fought a constant battle for most of the Civil War. His outnumbered and poorly-supplied army shrank daily as a result of desertions by disheartened soldiers. Yet, notwithstanding this, he fought vigorously before the moment when defeat was imminent.

How frequently do we quit goals when things aren’t proceeding the same manner there was anticipated? Have you decide to give up smoking, however learned you possessed an enormous project due in the office, school, or elsewhere? Have you try building a habit of awakening earlier in the morning, but then slept over the following day and decided rrt had been a pointless exercise?

Lee comes with an answer for these, and also other, problems: unremitting perseverance, that i would define as being a steady, unshakable persistence in staying with an alternative, belief, or purpose.

Once i train for and finally run the marathon, I am aware there would have been a little voice within my head telling me to avoid; it hurts an excessive amount of to visit a step further. However, my unremitting perseverance in pursuing the challenge — to the finish line — will enable me to pay attention simply to my footsteps against the pavement; the gentle breeze passing over my ears; and also the rhythm of my breathing — thus pushing that little voice into the depths of my subconscious.

Nevertheless, robert e lee quotes about history is a perfect example that harboring unremitting perseverance will not ensure victory. In the end, he was defeated in war. Yet, even during momentary failure, perseverance provides you with the electricity to get back on your own metaphorical (or actual) horse and ride into battle (hopefully metaphorical) again, pursuing your goal with all the knowledge that could simply be learned through setback.

You are able to that history is presented with the victor; and, in Lee’s case, it can be. In capturing the hearts of Americans, both through his military actions, his personal value system, and his sincere words of wisdom, Robert E. Lee is clearly victorious.
