How weddings have changed over the decades! From a handful to 400-500 invited guests; one-two to six-eight wedding party members; a fairly easy wedding car to expensive and big wedding cars; three course meals to six course meals; one to three live bands; simple attire to colorful and flamboyant dresses, suits and attire and off-the-cuff to well-prepared wedding speeches.
While we’re talking about the latter, wedding speeches are still a fundamental part of being married and guests do enjoy hearing them, speaking about them before, during as wll as after they’ve been delivered.
We are all aware of father of the bride speech delivered prior to the meal, throughout the meal and after the meal, yet it is of a strong opinion how the wedding speeches must be delivered as soon as the meal. I know that for many bridal party speakers i.e. Father from the Bride Speech, Father from the Groom Speech, Bride Speech, Groom Speech and Bestman Speech (the five main speakers), they might would rather have the wedding speeches ahead of the meal, so they can enjoy their meal (a number of them are spending money for it!). However, all is here the invited guests and the way many of them (as wll as the marriage venue staff) would prefer the wedding speeches being delivered as soon as the meal for several reasons, a few of which include:
The invited guests have already been fed and watered and aren’t hearing wedding speeches on an empty stomach (at least of food, which could be so ahead of the meal, though weddings today do provide light snacks upon arrival at the wedding venue)
Food may be cooked and served at the agreed time (introduce the marriage speeches ahead of the meal and their can be quite a delay of A quarter-hour to 1.5 hours, driving your home staff crazy attempting to keep food freshly cooked, presentable and edible)
The marriage speeches work as the transition from the meal on the dancing (without a penny happening following the meal, folks are expecting ‘a few words’ to be shared about the Bride & Groom after which it they do know they are able to get out of bed, move about, have a break, take a stroll, visit the bar…)
It’s not easy for parents from the Bride & Groom to communicate in in public, as the majority of them couldn’t survive used from it. So, they may, if they so wished, speak before the / their meal.
There should be some type of formal speech(es) following the meal…
