When you travel with us, you’ll often interact with locals, each with distinct traditions and customs. Therefore, we ask you to be considerate and to show them respect. You can always count on your tour guides or tour leaders to assist you.
The first thing you should know about traveling in Central Asia is that most regions, especially the towns and cities are more laid back in their attitude to Islam than their neighboring areas to the south in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Central Asia is an Muslim area so it is crucial to be aware in specific places. Long-sleeved shirts and shorts are fine for both sexes in cities, however when visiting mosques that are active, everybody should wear trousers that do not go below the knee and tops that cover their shoulders. A headscarf is also advised for females. The tour takes us to remote locations that aren’t usually visited by tourists. The people of the area are modest in their attire and therefore you’re likely to feel more comfortable dressed in conservative clothes too.
Language & Religion
Tajik is the official dialect of Tajikistan. Russian is used for business and communication.
The majority of people adhere to Sunni Islam. A small percentage of people follow the religions of Russian Orthodox, Catholicism and Buddhism.
Food and drinks
This tour focuses mainly on meats and soups. Vegetables can be difficult to discover in remote areas, and in higher elevations. There are plenty of dried fruit and nuts to taste.
Regarding alcohol, the options are mainly limited to vodka or beer so anyone wanting something different – Scotch or Gin for instance – must buy it duty free and bring it with them. It isn’t easy to find mixer drinks such as tonic water.
