‘Here to help with all of your health along with safety needs’
I am delighted to have joined the group at Acorn Safety Providers at such an exciting time. Acorn has bold ambitions for the future, especially around its legionella microorganisms services, and I can’t wait to be part of it.
I’ve invested many years working in the river industry, in domestic plumbing and remedials and more recently gaining valuable experience carrying out legionella risk checks.
I’ve already been on the road achieving our clients face-to-face, along with I’m really looking forward to creating these important relationships.
‘What is legionella bacteria and also am I at risk?’
Legionella germs is microscopic and is found in streams, estuaries and rivers, reservoirs and wetlands, usually in very low numbers, where they don’t cause any issues. The difficulty comes in case these tiny bacterias get trapped as part of your water system and also multiply, potentially ultimately causing Legionnaires’ Disease.
According to the Govt, there were 503 cases of Legionnaires’ Illness in the UK in 2019. It’s a critical illness which can be deadly – symptoms to know include fever, headaches, cough and shortness of breath.
While legionella bacteria might cause problems anywhere due to the right conditions, a few areas such as areas where water will be stored or recirculated, the place that the water temperature is among 20-45°C or where corrode, sludge, scale along with organic matters are present, are considered to be from much higher risk.
People who are more susceptible to contamination, including the elderly and the ones with weakened natureal defenses, need to be especially mindful.
‘So, what can I do to protect myself and those close to me?’
Employers, the actual self-employed, facilities managers, safe practices officers and land lords, are all among those who’ve a duty to protect people against the risks connected with legionella bacteria.
The rules all around legionella bacteria are really complex and testing must be carried out by an expert * this is where Acorn Safety Services can really help.
A full Legionella Risk Assessment carried out by a qualified assessors is the initial important step in discovering and assessing your own personal risk.
The survey will look for any non-Water Regulations Endorsement Scheme approved fixtures, assess your cool water tank and conditions in your hot water canister and accessibility to other areas that require monitoring and maintenance by law.
Following the assessment, you will receive a full report which will include any advice about remedial work as well as repairs and methods you should take following.
